Yesterday I went to see my Grandma and Grandpa in Bellevue. I did all my laundry while I was there. When I say "my" laundry...I mean all of Kyle's work clothes and a few of my workout outfits. I'm not sure how he gets out of laundry when it is ALL his. Yesterday he was able to get in a workout while I washed...hmmm.

I walk in the always warm and inviting home. My Grandma is watching Oklahoma and Oklahoma State basketball game. She immediately informs me about the drama. Former OSU coach was arrested on drug charges. Grandma is always up to speed on all college sports news. She knows it all.

I hear Gramps call out "I'm here too! Over here!". Gramps is sitting at the dining room table in his bathrobe (it's almost noon...they don't get up until about 10am). "Hi Gramps", I say when I find him. "Hi Mol, I'm just in here reading the paper". Once I get closer the paper looks a little ragged. Soon I find out that Gramps is reading the original newspaper from 1938. It is a tribute paper for the death of Will Rogers and Wiley Post. Grandpa knows a lot about the famous actor Will Rogers who started in Wild West Shows and eventually made it big in Hollywood. He is from my Grandpa's hometown in Oklahoma. My Grandpa had to just be a few years old when the plane had troubles up in Alaska and did a nose dive into the water killing both men. My Grandpa has read most of Will Rogers articles and knows so much about his life. He has spent time at the Will Roger's Memorial and has seen the piece of paper that Will Roger's wrote on just as the plane was going down. Will Rogers was writing about his adventure and then he stopped mid sentence and typed "...death". The typewriter was found completely smashed, but the paper is in the museum!

My Grandpa told me all about Will Rogers (even though I've heard my Grandpa talk about him before). My Grandma kept up with the basketball game and I kept my wash going. My Grandparents spent a few days down in Phoenix last week with my Grandma's sister (Aunt Nancy and Uncle Eddy). I got to see pictures of their new home, pool, a trip up into the canyons and even a flight museum in Tuscon (apparently that is a stones throw away from Phoenix when my Grandparents are planning things). My Aunt Nancy had some pictures of her (and my Grandma's) Mom and Dad that my Grandma had never seen. Gram asked how to get duplicates of the pictures so I took them home to scan and will print off soon. The pictures of my Great Grandparents (who we all called Ommie and Ompie) are so special. I wanted to share some of them.

They grew up and met in Oklahoma. My Great Grandma Ommie was very athletic for her time, she had a great sense of humor and ALWAYS kept up with the boys. I always remember her loving the color purple. She had her whole room in purple when she was older...and she always said "ewwwwwwwww - weeeeee" to everything she liked :). She gave me (and all of my cousins) a Precious Moments Bible with our name engraved and a sweet message from her. My Grandma always told us all of her favorite bible verses as we were growing up. My Great Grandpa Ompie died sooner than Ommie so I don't remember him as well. I do remember they had a HUGE cherry tree in their back yard and he would hold me out their second story window and let me pull the brand IN the window and pluck off the cherries. I have read some of the letters my Mom would write to them when she was younger. She would ask Omie if Ompie was flirting with the stewardess on their plane rides, and she would announce her grades so Ompie could pay her money for the A's. I know he was a jokester and was always the life of the party. Such special memories.
