Do you ever notice that when you sometimes remove polish, your nails are left yellowed and stained? This is often caused by chemicals in nail polish such as formaldehyde. It's a total bummer, I know, so to avoid yellowing from happening, I suggest using formaldehyde free polish (The Body Shop carries a good line) and try to avoid leaving polishes on the nail surface for long periods of time. Sometimes using a slice of lemon to cleanse bare nails can remove superficial stains, but sometimes stains can be attributed to more than just polish......In some cases, yellowing of the nail (or even nails with brown or green areas) can indicate nail fungus. Although it can be unpleasant to talk about, Onychomycosis (ON-i-ko-my-KO-sis) or nail fungus is extremely common, with an estimated 2 million Canadian sufferers. It is caused by infection from contact and then moves under the nail, which provides a safe place for fungus to grow. Most often, fungus occurs in toenails, mainly because the dark, warm and moist environment is the perfect breeding ground. Nail Fungus can be contracted by walking barefoot in locker rooms, swimming pools and shower stalls and can also spread to other nails. Unsterile nail tools can also contribute to nail fungus infection. Anything that damages a nail can make it easier for the fungus to move in, such as: An injury (like banging a fingernail with a hammer or stubbing your toe) or Tight shoes that pinch the toes. Nail Fungus can be embarrassing, especially for those who choose to wear their nails with French tips or au natural. If you suspect you have a fungal infection, you should consult with your doctor. Some people choose to treat nail fungus, some people don’t, but nail fungus often won’ t go away all by itself. It can keep getting worse. It may spread from one nail to another, or to someone else. Your healthcare provider will help you decide how to deal with your nail fungal infection. Here are some tips for preventative measures: -Synthetic fibre socks cause feet to perspire more, so try wearing 100% cotton socks instead -Keep your feet as clean and dry as possible. Talcum foot powder can help -Wear shoes that “breathe,” such as canvas or leather shoes -Wear shower shoes when you’ re in public swimming pools, public showers, or locker rooms -Clip your toenails straight across so they do not extend over the edges of the toes -Wear comfortable shoes that fit properly and don’t pinch your toes -If you get manicures or pedicures, make sure your salon follows the health standard guidelines for cleanliness.
Sometimes, even the idea of creating simple nail designs can be scary for someone who is not artistically inclined. Needless to say, there is always a way to get around things, and companies try their hardest to find products that the majority of their customers can use. No one can deny the fact that many women like to have their nails done. If they cannot do it themselves, even simple nail designs, then they will pay to have someone else do it for them. Going to the salon can be costly, however, and acrylic can ruin your nails. Another option is to by artificial nails from your local retail store.
Even simple nail designs can be challenging for some. So, fake nails are the next best thing. Many women are wary of using artificial nails in a box because they tend to pop off. They are supposed to last one week, but oftentimes, nails may pop off in as early as one day. This can be very annoying, especially if you work in an environment that is labor intensive. However, artificial nails often have simple art designs on them that are very tempting to those who pass by them in the store. The nail art on artificial nails look complex, but really just consist of several layers of simple nail designs. So, if you are tempted, go for it! Here are some tips to get you started:
Select artificial nails that are almost the same length as yours. Most boxes will indicate whether the artificial nails are short or long. If you want long ones, grow your nails to the same length before you use them. This provides a strong support for your nails and makes them less prone to breaking off. For instance, if your nails are short, and you choose long artificial nails, they are constantly banging against things, which will cause the glue to weaken. If your real nails are the same length as your artificial, however, they are more likely to stay on.
When first applying the artificial nail, do not press down to hard. This is because if you chose simple nail designs with a clear base, the glue will show through the and not give your nails that “smooth finish” look. When applying pressure to the nail, do it uniformly. Start pressing the middle at the middle of your nail and work your way out so that the artificial nail is snuggly in place.
Choose a time period when you do not have to do a lot of lifting or manual labor. Artificial nails that come in a box are great for the office, being at home or relaxing on the beach. Chances are, the artificial nails will still break off (what do you expect) but that is why you always keep your glue handy. Because there are a variety of simple nail designs to choose from, you have many options to wear while at work.
Once you choose simple art designs and glue on all of your nails, keep the box in your purse. This way, whenever you a nail pops off, you can pick it up and glue it back on. If you cannot find the nail that popped off, simply use one of the spare nails located in your box.
Before you begin applying the nails, pick out which ones you are going to use for each nail beforehand. You will not always find exactly the right size. In that case, remember that a nail that is too small is always better than one that is too large. A nail that is too large will stick to your skin and is guaranteed to fall off quickly anyway.
Looking your best can add a boost of confidence. It is a whole lot of fun, too! For more beauty tips, check out Simple Nail Designs, where you can learn how to do a French Nail Manicure.
