Less and More: The Design Ethos of Dieter Rams
by Anna Carnick Available stateside this month, Less and More: The Design Ethos of Dieter Rams covers the breadth of the influential German designer’s career—notably his projects for furniture company Vitsœ and the forty-plus year’s worth of work for consumer electronics manufacturer Braun. Published by Gestalten, the title comes from Rams’ own prescription for creative work: "Weniger, aber besser,” roughly translating to “Less, but better.”...
Julia-I’m happy to share the plans with you. I designed the bench and my carpenter built it for around $500. You can even learn from my mistake, it is about 1″ too high. The paint is “Tusk” from my favorite paint co: C2. Emma N.-the bulk of this project had to do with the wall coming down and the bench going up, but we did paint the cabinets and switch out the hardware, you can see it in my flickr here: http://tiny.cc/HPo0Y . Adrienne–the chalk board I spotted advertising a garage sale on a busy street here in Madison. I hopped out of the car, literally ran over to the homeowner and took it home squealing with joy after paying only $10 for it. I have a local shop owner who will scout out certain pieces for me, do you have someone like that? Mine is currently looking for some lab chairs for the bar. Thanks for all the kind words and you’re ALL welcome over for brunch or coffee anytime. :)
